Intro to Taiwanese actors

Okay, I'll be honest, it is not a proper introduction. This is because I am fairly new to Taiwanese dramas. Every time, I see a new drama, I discover a new actor. For example, I am watching Drunken to love you and really liking Joseph Chang and it is my first drama of him. Therefore, this intro is just of Taiwanese actors I like. Some are good actors and others are just good looking and charismatic. I am just hoping you'll see the pic of these actors, fall in love and start watching their dramas and movies. Tee Hee.

He is a good actor and easy on the eyes. My first drama of him was Hana Kimi where I didn't recognize him because of his cornrows. However, it was Fated to love you that made me love him. He was the best part about that show.

Mike He

Oh, Mike He. I love this guy. He's soooo hawt. Mike He has steadily improved his acting. I've seen him in Why Why Love, Devil Beside you and Yukan Club. I am just starting to watch Sunny Happiness and he's really good in the first episode.

He is really cute and has an amazing chemistry with Ariel Lin. Seriously, I hated It Started with a Kiss and only thing redeemable about that drama was their acting. I recommend Love or Bread which has their chemistry but with a better story in my opinion.

Wu Chun

Wu Zun is not a very good actor but I have a soft spot for him. His was in the first Asian drama I ever saw so therefore I love him. Watch Hana Kimi, Tokyo Juliet and Romantic Princess. Oh, and did I mention Wu Zun is hot. Oh, yes he is.

Jiro Wang

Jiro was so cute in Hana Kimi and the only reason I watched Momo Love was because of him. So, yeah, watch his drama cause I've got a huge crush on him. LOL :D

He's truly a gifted actor and a very handsome man. I loved his role in Meteor Garden and Mars and he had an amzing chemistry with Barbie Hsu. The drama I recommend of him is Black and White. He's mature, confident and sexy in the drama.

Jerry Yan

Oh, how can I forget the other member of F4 Jerry Yan. Jerry is tall, handsome and awesome. The dramas I've seen him in are Meteor Garden, Hot Shot and Down with love.

I know, I left some famous actors out but I can only post the introduction of actors whose dramas I've watched and the performances I've enjoyed.Tomorrow, please look forward to my intro to Taiwanese actresses.

Shor in the city, elections and JYP auditions!

First of all, a serious issue. All Canadians who are eligible to vote, Please do so on May 2. In the case, you are living under a rock, I am posting a link to four major parties platform.

Conservatives

Liberals

NDP

Green Party (no, they are not the marijuana party)

Kpop is really boring me, I don't really like any of the rookie groups but 2ne1 is making a comeback. (source: allkpop.com)

I am really excited about Extravagant challenge. In my mind, Siwon and Donghae can do no wrong (unless they turn evil and want to sacrifice monkey blood but that's unlikely). To keep myself occupied, I am watching their songs. Ennjoy Bonamana:)

Has anyone heard of JYP doing global auditions in Toronto? My sister read it on allkpop but I can't find it. No, I am not going to audition but her friend who is of Chinese descent wants to. I believe anyone can audition although they are more likely to pick a person of Asian descent.

I am really excited about Shor in the city. I love how Bollywood is bringing more of these movie that have an indie vibe. Oh and it stars Sendhil Ramamurthy from Heroes. Yay. The soundtrack is good. You know if a Hindi movie has a song Karma is a bitch it's going to be fun.

Band Baaja Barrat and Tanu Weds Manu songs

Okay, in my movie reviews, I mentioned the lovely soundtracks these movies have. Well, now I'll post some of them from YouTube. They are perfect for any Indian wedding and you can even use them to infuse some Bollywood flavour in your Royal wedding themed party. Okay, that was some cheesy sentence I wrote.

First up, Band Baaja Baarat.

Now for Tanu weds Manu

Band Baaja Baraat movie review

Source:lifestyle.iloveindia.com

Oh, Bollywood. Why don't you give us more movies like Band Baaja Barrat. It was released last year in December, I believe. But, I only watched it like a week ago. Before I even go into Plot summary, I just wanna say, I really love the female character in this movie. Okay now to the review.
The movie is about two young college graduates who decide to open a business of wedding planning. The female character is Shruti Kakkar and it was her idea of wedding planning. Bitto Sharma, the male lead just joins her because he does not want to go back to his village. He literally begs Shruti to take him as his business partner. Shruti doesn't want to because she doesn't want to mix business with love and is worried he'll fall in love with her. Both characters compliment each other beautifully in both business and life. Eventually, Shruti falls in love with him but will Bitto reciprocate and break the rule of not mixing business with love.

Okay now to spoiler ridden discussion. okay, I don't give way any plot but some people don't want to know anything.
One thing i loved about this movie was the characters. They were lovable yet flawed. It was also nice to see no villains in the movie. the characters are their worst enemies.  Shruti was such a refreshing character from usual Bollywood trope. She was independent, had a career yet she was lovable, sentimental human. I also loved how they portrayed sex in the movie. Yes, this movie has a sex scene, not anything graphic. Oh, it also has some kissing scenes. I didn't feel repulsed watching them like I usually do with some Bollywood movies. I actually thought they were done beautifully. Bitto, I liked him as a character but I found that his character didn't mature as much as Shruti. Still, Bitto was a fun male lead. Spoilers endeth here.

Now to the songs, I love the music in this movie and it wasn't jarring. The music fit the movie perfectly.

My verdict: Definately watch this movie and but the soundtrack.

Tanu Weds Manu Movie review

First of all, I 'd like to say I made a mistake in the last post that I have corrected. I am doing the wedding theme movie review today and tomorrow and not on Friday.

Source: photofunt.com

Now to the review. This is the spoiler free discussion.

The story is about Manu, an NRI who comes to India to visit his family in Delhi and um to get married. In the process of seeing girls his parents found, he meets Tanu, a UP girl. Her parents try to pass her off as a traditional obedient Indian girl except the audience suspects it is not quite the case. Anyhoo, Tanu never actually gets to see Manu because she took sleeping pills and is subsequently out. Manu falls in love with Tanu at first sight but she does not reciprocate the feelings. The girl's got a boyfriend, smokes, drinks and hence not the ideal Indian nari. She forces Manu to break off the engagement. Manu is heartbroken but ends up at his childhood friends wedding and lo behold the bride to be's best friend is Tanu. Will they or will they not fall in love?

The movie is full of cliches which i usually don't mind in a masala movie. But gosh, this movie was disappointing. First of all, the two main protagonists Tanu and Manu. Tanu is a spoiled, bratty selfish girl who does not want to marry a guy her parents chose because she does not want them to make that decision for her. Okay, I get that. But, here's the problem. Tanu isn't independent, has her own job and relies on her parent's money. Her choice in boys is questionable. But what is the worse is how she keeps tramping on Manu's heart despite him helping her over and over again. He loves this girl and I really don't get it. I see no character growth and found tanu selfish to the end.
Manu, Manu, oh boy. This man is a noble idiot. He keeps letting this girl walk all over her. sure, he loves her but I don't understand why. Does he love her because she's pretty or he interested in her because she doesn't fit the mold of homely Indian girl. That's the feeling I got from the movie.

The movie does have  awesome secondary characters who are the voice of reason in the whole movie. I liked them more than Tanu and Manu. The movie also got a fun soundtrack. My favourite is Jugni as two lines from the song remind me of my late great grandmother. Sadi gali is also good.

My verdict: Buy the soundtrack, don't bother watching the movie.

Mumbai Diaries

When I saw the movie Dhobie Ghat, I knew I wanted to visit Mumbai and see this incredible city myself. My mom went to India in the early April and quite unexpectedly she had to go to Mumbai. It was her first time and she liked Mumbai. I'd like to share some of her thoughts on this city and India in general.
My mom thought Mumbai was a nicer city than Delhi where she spent a week. Mumbai had an easy going vibe that she liked. As for India, she thinks India still has a long way to catch up to China. The cities were dirty, had poor infrastructure and the people were aggressive. So, what about the economic miracle I kept hearing about. Well, my mom shared this anecdotal evidence with me. A decade ago, the going rate for a shagun  (gifts you give on auspicious occasions) was 101 rupees. Now it is 500 rupees for kids and a 1000 rupees for adults. So, the middle class is wealthier and have more stuff. As for the poor, my mom thought there was more poverty.

The sign above advertises for cold dreams. Yup, and it is Hindi. Don't ask me what cold dreams are? If you wanna try them out, go to Mumbai.

LOL:D

I am back to blogging.

I am sorry, I didn't update the blog for a long time. The past three months were quite challenging. I was sick, extremely busy with essays, exams, and frankly, I lost interest in blogging. However, I am back, feeling much better now. I promise to post more. Although, we are changing our Internet provider in May, so I'll be without Internet for a while. My mom went to India and I'd like to share some pictures of her 2 day trip to Mumbai. It will be in the next post.

Now to updates.

I know this is kinda old now but They are filming Extravagant challenge aka Skip Beat. Siwon is playing Ren. Soooo excited.
Here's a video of the cast members.
