Satyamev Jayante: a show to warm your soul

So, I finally watched the much touted show helmed by Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan. The show which is a talk show modelled on Oprah talks about issues usually not discussed openly in India. The first three episodes discussed topics such as Female Infanticide, Child Sexual Abuse and Dowry. Aamir handled each topic with sensitivity and loads of empathy. I also liked how the show had done its research thoroughly. The shows covers all of India not just the Hindi cow belt region. Although, the show is in Hindi, it is dubbed in several regional languages. I loved the music at the end of each episode that sums up the feelings of that episode. Now, I am not naive and think India's problems will be magically solved by 1 show. However, the show does bring to light taboo topics in India and facilitates discussion. That in itself is the first step in tackling such societal evils. You can find the show on Youtube, on the website Satyamev Jayate. It is also eng subbed on Youtube. BTW, I am in love with the official theme song. Enjoy :D

P.S: I also like that Aamir doesn't just preach. The audience and the viewers can actively take part by signing petitions and supporting charities.

Top 5 sexy Indian actors

I didn't feel like posting this week. I've been battling a nasty cold and been inundated with loads of work. I am trying to make it up with pics of hot Indian men. Enjoy!

5. Dino Morea

Source: surfindia.com

Remember Dino Morea? He was extremely popular as a model in the  90's and the early 2000's. Too bad he cannot act and his movies are atrocious. But, he's very good looking eh?

4. Marc Robinson

I was just a little girl when I first saw Marc in Alisha Chinai's video. Had a very huge crush on him since then. He's old now but still think he is one of the most handsome men.

3. John Abraham

John will always be known as one of the sexiest Indian actors. He's just too handsome.

2. Vidyut Jamwal

When I saw the movie Force, I could not keep my eyes off this man. He can act and his gaze is smouldering.

1. Miland Soman

My first crush. No one can top him. India's first male supermodel. His acting career didn't pan out that well. But, still love him.

IIFA Double Dhamaal Premiere in Brampton

First of all, I'd like to say Shahrukh Khan is here in Toronto for IIFA. Woohoo. My dad went to see the stars of Double Dhamaal at Silver City, Brampton. I did not go because I had other plans.  My Dad is not a very good photographer and therefore the pictures did not come out that great. I had pictures of close ups of the stars but were too blurry to post. Nevertheless, I was able to sift and find some decent pictures to share.

Intro to Bollywood Actors (Part 2)

These are the younger actors in Bollywood. One day, they'll take over the Khans. They tend to be on average better looking than the older generation and maintain that body of theirs. I believe all of these guys have a six pack.  Some of them have been in the industry longer than the others even though they are of similar age group.

Shahid Kapoor

He has improved his acting abilities and matured into his looks. I loved him in Jab We Met and liked his performance in Kaminey as well. He needs to pick better movies.

John Abraham

Not a very good actor although I did like him in Dostana. He is good eye candy, eh?

Imran Khan

Source: maxgone.com

Imran is the nephew of Aamir Khan. He is cute and a good actor. However, like Shahid he just picks some bad movies. I am looking forward to seeing him in Delhi Belly. Watch him in Jaane Tu Ya Na Jaane.

Ranbir Kapoor

I don't think Ranbir is good looking. Before I get murdered by hordes of fan girls, let me say he is a very good actor. He is a good performer and I think he'll go very far in his career. I liked him in Wake up Sid. BTW, he's not related to Shahid.

Prateik Babbar

Prateik's mom Smita Patil was one of India's finest actresses. It seems like Prateik inherited that ability. I loved him in Mumbai Diaries (Dhobi ghat). He's one of the younger actors to watch out for.

Kunal Kapoor

Wow, there are a lot of Kapoors in Bollywood. LOL. Kunal is one fine looking specimen and he can act. I must say we don't see much of him which is a pity. I liked him in Rang De Basanti and Aaja Nachle.

Like my previous posts, I do not mention all the young actors in Bollywood. Please look forward to my intro to Bollywood actresses.

Intro to Bollywood Actors (Part 1)

Bollywood Cinema or Hindi Cinema is only one of the film industries in India. Since there are many languages spoken across India, there are various film industries supporting that language, culture and ethnicity. Many people have the wrong impression that Bollywood is the only cinema because it is the most prolific and there are a lot more Hindi speakers in India.

Bollywood actors on average tend to be a lot more older than their Asian counterparts. Whereas in East Asia you have a lot of young idols who dabble in Television and films, it is not the case in Bollywood. The most succesfull actors in Bollywood now are in their 40's. There are younger actors and I'll be introducing them seperately in Part 2.  Bollywood is also full of nepotism and clan led and therefore, most of the actors belong to Filmi Families. Unlike my intro to Taiwanese actors or Japanese actors, I am not just mentioning my favourite actors because some actors I do not like  have some very popular movies in Bollywood. Also, I know a lot more about it, so you'll get a more nuanced view from me.

The 4 Khans: Bollywood's most famous actors.

Chances are that if you'll ever see a Bollywood movie, it will be starring a Khan. They all have different appeals and acting abilities.

Shahrukh Khan

Source: bollywoodhott.com

He is probably one of the most famous Bollywood actor and also know as SRK and King Khan. He is very charismatic and loved by legions of women. The role that garnered him a lot of attention was actually a negative role (a villain). He then reinvented his image to play a quintessential Bollywood romantic hero in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Recently, Shahrukh has broadened his acting horizons by doing roles in Chak de India and Swades. These movies are notable because his acting is very natural and subtle.

Aamir Khan

Source: our-kerala.com

He is my favourite Khan of Bollywood. He is known to be a perfectionist and is probably one of the best actors in Bollywood. His movie Lagaan that he starred in was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Foreign Picture in 2001. His production company is known for supporting movies that are atypical Bollywood. That is the movies have no song or dance or have good script or not romance or over the top stuff Bollywood is known for. Some of my favourite movies of him are Dil Chahata Hai, Mumbai Diaries (Dhobi Ghat) and Taare Zameen Par.

Salman Khan

Source:bollywoodhott.com

He is Bollywood's bad boy who has served jail time and known for abusing his famous ex Aishwarya Rai. However, for some reason kids love him and I mean love this guy. He's not all bad as he does support poor folks in India and does a lot of charity work. Oh, also he's known for dating some of the most beautiful women on Planet Earth. I really don't see the appeal.  You can probably guess, he's my least favourite of all the Khans. Nevertheless, he has been part of some entertaining Bollywood movies. He's not a very good actor but does have popular appeal and was part of Dabaang (a very popular Bollywood movie).

Saif Ali Khan

His mum was one of my favourite Bollywood actress and his dad is a royal. He comes from a background of privilege. I hated his earlier work but he has tremendously improved his acting. All you fans of Shakespeare must see Omkara, an adaptation of Othello. Saif plays Iago and he's just amazing. He was also in Dil Chahta Hai.

Akshay Kumar

Source: themidaymasala.com

He is a very popular actor and I like him as a person but sadly makes a lot of dumb comedies. If that's your thing, go ahead watch his movies.

Hrithik Roshan

Source: chakpak.com

He's one of the best looking Bollywood actors. He can also dance, act and make you fall in love with him. I tremendously enjoyed him in Dhoom 2 and Lakshya.

Amitabh Bachhan

Source: nextbollywood.com

He's been part of a lot of movies and he's also one of Bollywood's most famous actors. He is the host of India's version of Who wants to be a Millionaire. He is a talented actor. I like a lot of his movies especially the one in 1970's so go check out his filmography.

There are some famous old actors like Sanjay Dutt that I have left out but frankly the above mentioned actors are the most popular and loved. Part II will have younger Bollywood actors like Shahid Kapoor, John Abraham and Imran Khan.
